About Verniana
Founded in 2008 by Zvi Har’El and members of the Jules Verne Forum, Verniana (ISSN 1565-8872) publishes original scholarly essays and reviews pertaining to the works and influence of French author Jules Verne (1828–1905). Texts published in Verniana may be written in any modern language (abstracts of each text are provided in English and French), and are subject to rigorous peer review and editing by scholars of international standing in the field of Jules Verne Studies.
Verniana is an international multilingual peer-reviewed online journal that will consider any original contribution that advances knowledge about Jules Verne and his works. Manuscripts must be solely the work of the author(s) stated, must not have been previously published elsewhere, and must not be under consideration by another journal.
Verniana is an open access journal; any reader with an Internet connection may access any materials in the journal without cost. All texts published in Verniana are published under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 Unported License. A text may be copied, distributed and transmitted, under the following conditions: the text must be attributed to its author(s), its prior publication in Verniana must be acknowledged, it may not be used for commercial purposes, and it may not be altered, transformed or built upon. Electronic republication in venues other than Verniana must include a prominent mention and link back to the address of the original publication in Verniana. (Note that authors whose texts are published in Verniana retain full copyright of their texts. Substantial citations or complete reprints of their works require their individual permissions.)
The journal follows a “publish when ready” model. Texts accepted for the current annual volume are posted online throughout the year, as soon as they have been accepted by the journal’s Editorial Board and readied for publication. Each annual volume opens on February 8, the anniversary of Jules Verne’s birth, and closes on February 7 of the following calendar year. Thus the first volume was inaugurated on February 8, 2008—the 180th anniversary of Verne’s birth—and closed on February 7, 2009.
Verniana is published in three formats: HTML, and PDFs in “US Letter” and A4 formats.
Verniana’s main section has Articles about Verne and his works. Other sections are Reviews of books, films, DVDs, CDs, etc. Notes and Queries present short notes, comments or queries to the editors. The Editorial section introduces the reader to its yearly volume. On special occasions, a unique section can be added, like The Eaton Sequence in 2009.
